New Year Thoughts on Biking

By Tony Olejnicki | Creator of the QLS Program

I start with my favorite quote for this week:

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who had said, not even if I had said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense” – Buddha

There are many exciting sports and physical activities and because we are all different, we enjoy different activities. I’d like to talk about the most useful and productive activity from a health, quality lifestyle and fitness aspects.

Biking is the most versatile and the most accessible physical activity. This is my opinion stemming from my experience, so you are perfectly entitled to disagree. But before you do that, let me put a number of very good reasons to support my opinion. This may surprise and inspire you to take up biking, a perfect New Year Resolution

So, why is biking the best thing you will ever do?

No. 1 – You can move faster than walking or running so you can see and explore more things, which should make you more interesting and engaging person.

No. 2 – Biking engages the entire range of fitness: flexibility, agility, endurance, upper body strength if you ride hills or even undulations, and legs. Biking is accessible to any age or physical ability.

No. 3 – Biking strengthens your core, helps to develop and maintain stability and prevents back pain.

No. 4 – The longer you can sustain exercise, more fat gets burned, and eventually, your six-pack will surface from your fat tummy.

No. 5 – Biking helps improve decision-making process because it requires more coordination, a continuous awareness, and a fast problem-solving. This, in turn, makes your brain more flexible and agile.

No. 6 Using pedal cleats while biking, promotes better gait and muscle balance for a correct running and walking postures.

No. 7 You can bike longer than walking or running, so it helps you to be active longer. It reduces your sitting motionlessly in a chair, helps to become healthier and improves healthy life expectancy.

All this makes sense and it is why biking activities form a big part of QLS Program.
