A routine and personal comfort are natural parts of a human behavior and need to be disrupted at regular intervals whether this is a private or professional life.
There are many ways to achieve that.
A good motivational speaker can be one of these disruptions to ignite your employees to action, creativity, and productivity.
For an established business the motivational speaker can inspire something fresh and help the business cornered with stagnant practices working like a hum-drum and being inefficient. In particularly, once a business has established a reputation in the community it can be too relaxed on its laurels and fall in the false sense of security.
Keynote speakers can bring in a completely different viewpoint, a different perspective from years of experience or a background rooted in their particular industry.
On the other hand, we often underestimate our own ideas and experiences and look for a new, instead improving the old practices with the technology, it is called innovation. The Facebook is an old idea, an urge for people to socialize, network and gossip. A state of technology just enabled to convert the local gossip network into a global and the financial success followed. The motivational speaker can put a new angle on these ideas and he or she can give an employee a renewed sense of purpose. Every business has its purpose, it’s own WHY for existence, very often lost to employees and the CEO chasing the shareholder value.
Another approach is to motivate employees with real benefits, which inspire them to the enjoyment of working environment and taking ownership of their jobs, being creative, alert and mentally available.
Statistically, only 20% of employees enjoy coming to work and sitting at the desk for 8 hours. The sitting is the most physically and mentally tasking activity. Office work demands endurance equivalent to a professional athlete because it lasts 30-50 year, while a professional athletic life lasts 5-10 years. Imagine turning this statistic upside down, transforming 20% to 80%. Scientifically this is not only possible but easily achievable.
The answer is a smart office mobility. The office mobility stimulates the office worker to a better productivity, creativity and body rejuvenation. Most of the office workers are physiologically older than their age, typically 5-20 years older. No surprise that thinking and creativity of an average office worker are impaired, so the value of motivational speaker maybe short lived. After another 1-hour sitting session, only a small minority of employees will get inspired and motivated. The inspiration would probably be short lived. Often, the time could be spent better with an inspirational lunchtime walk through a beautiful park.
So in 2017, the transition to an active office environment should be on the mind of every manager looking to improve the business performance and on the mind of every office worker to improve health, creativity, and healthy longevity outcomes.
I call that a transition to Quality Lifestyle. It is simple and cost-effective but it requires a well-planned implementation and investment in the process. Simple and simplistic sound very similar but the first leads to a success and the second to a failure.
